Defense Wins Championship! Clatskanie defeats Sutherlin 55-44.
Clatskanie’s executed there defensive game plan to a T. Clatskanie did a great job of corralling Sutherlin star backcourt so. Micah Wiks and sr. Jaydn Vermillion. Limiting their open looks and keeping them out of the paint majority of the night. At times, Sutherlin would go on a mini run but Clatskanie would respond on offense and compound it with tough defense.
On offense, seniors Shelby Blodgett and Olivia Sprague Inside and out threat was too much for Sutherlin to handle. Senior Kaitlyn Sizemore made plays to help relief pressure off Olivia and Shelby.
As for Sutherlin, outside of turnovers, they played a solid game. They would often make shots and get some quality stops. They battled the entire game and left it all out there. Hats off to seniors Jaydn Vermillion and Amy Dickover for incredible HS career. With Clatskanie graduating their stud class, Junior Micah Wiks will look to lead her team back to Coos Bay.
As for Clatskanie, they completed the ultimate goal of winning three state titles in a row. Senior Shelby Blodgett has won back to back State POY and Olivia Sprague was named First Team All State 2x. These two young ladies along with Kaitlyn Sizemore have won five state titles in three years with 3 basketball and 2 softball. Unbelievable accomplishment!
