Final Score: Amity 46 Willamina 18
Amity probably does not have the offense to win a state title, but their defense might be enough for a deep playoff run by itself.
The 1-3-1 was at full throttle tonight, and it was incredible. Willamina had an abundance of difficulty getting the ball past half court, but even when they did accomplish getting over the timeline that didn’t necessarily mean a shot was going to get up. In the fourth quarter alone the Bulldogs only managed three legitimate shots at the hoop, one of which was off a rebound. Turnovers and rebounds went solidly in Amity’s direction, leaving little room for error if Willamina was going to have a shot at winning the game. It was only a 15-13 game at half, even a relatively tight 26-16 after three, but when the shots finally started to fall for Amity in the fourth it was game over.
The Warriors couldn’t miss down the stretch, finally knocking down the open shots that had been rimming out all game. After not hitting a single three pointer for the first 24 minutes, Amity went 3/3 from deep in quick succession to seal the game in the middle fourth.
Willamina has legit talent, but this was a bad matchup. Don’t take the 28 point final margin and assume the bulldogs are out of the 2A title race, this team will be in Pendleton and will make noise there; They're too experienced, too well coached, and too talented to do anything short of that.
