This year Elite 8 will be an exciting finish in Coos Bay. These 8 teams are all 20+ win teams and will bring a lot of talent to the Bay! Corbett, Banks, Pleasant Hill, Sutherlin, Amity, Lakeview, Nyssa and Santiam Christian will all be fun teams to watch!
Below are a few storylines to look out for at the Elite 8:
New Kids On The Block…
Due to the OSAA realignment this season, Corbett and Banks moved from 4A to 3A. Neither team wasted no time to enforce their will on the state. Corbett 23-3 record with impressive wins over Banks, Amity and Madres. Corbett won the Costal Range League Title. Banks 25-2 record with impressive wins over Westside Christian, Santiam Christian, Amity and Corbett. Both teams are considered strong favorites to win the title and they are in separate brackets. State Title Game?
Four Times a Charm?
Reigning State POY Micah Wicks has had a legendary career thus far but her and Head Coach Josh Grotting has one goal in mind and that’s bringing home the 3A State Title. Sutherlin has played in 2 out of the last 3 state title games and came up short in both of them. They was litterally a few possessions away from cutting down the nets. Could this be the season were they bring home the chip? They are in a tough bracket but anything can happen. Good luck!
Elite 8 Game of The Night 3/2/23
Amity vs Santiam Christian 3:15pm at North Bend HS. This game will feature the top two teams out of the PacWest League. Amity defeated SC twice during the regular season but loss in the league title game. It’s hard to beat a team three times in a year but anything can happen in Coos Bay. Two teams that know each other extremely well makes for an exciting chess match. Who will earn a pivotal checkmate to advance to the final four? We will see tomorrow afternoon!
The runner up game of the night is Nyssa vs Corbett. Reigning state champions Nyssa lead by Utah State commit Gracie Johnson will have their hands full with Corbett lights out three pointing shooting ability.
Upset Alert?
Pleasant Hill and Lakeview are to solid teams that are playing extremely well heading to the Elite 8. Bring your A games ladies because anything can happen in Coos Bay!
I will not be in attendance but I will be following on NFHS, talking to media, coaches and players. Good luck to all teams!
