Going into the 2018-19 season, Horizon Christian’s Dave Brown was nearing his 800th Career win as a Head Basketball Coach. It only took five games for the milestone to be achieved.
Brown will once again have another great group of players this season, as the Hawks are ranked number 4 in the most recent coaches poll. Brown and company will be hoping to do better than the 2017-18 team who went two and out in the Oregon 3A State Championships last season.
Coach Brown is one of the best High School Basketball coaches Oregon has ever seen and has already made it known the 2018-19 campaign will be his last.
Dave Brown's coaching career began when he was hired as the JV coach at Fountain Valley in 1967, later being promoted to Head Coach in just two years. He spent 20 years at Fountain Valley before taking the Head Coaching Job at Laguna Hills in 1989. Dave Brown is the third-winningest coach in Orange County High School history, winning 527 games during his 33-year coaching career in Southern California.
Brown then resigned in 2002 and moved to Oregon, after hearing about a new school opening in Tualatin named, “Horizon Christian”. Brown was immediately interested and wondered if they needed a basketball coach, later landing the job in 2006.
Coach Brown is a legendary coach who has coached many great players over the last 45 years. One of the best players he ever coached was Jordan Tebbutt. Many D1 schools were all over this 6’5 Point Forward, as he received offers from USC, Washington State, Oregon State, Baylor, Gonzaga, Boston College. During his time at Horizon, Jordan won State Championships in 2010 and 2011. After his Junior year, he decided to transfer to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, one of the High School Basketball programs in the country. In his senior year, Oak Hill was ranked the third best high school basketball team in the nation. Jordan Tebbutt started 2012 on the bench, before taking a starting spot and leading the team to a 41-0 record. Jordan later attended Kansas, but didn’t play basketball. Jordan played for the USA National team in 2011, but didn’t play competitive basketball until putting his name into the 2016 Draft.
