This year, it’s looking like Marshfield (school that host 3A Elite Eight) will be the home team for both of their Girls and Boys First Round Games.
How does effect 3A title game?
The Championship games are scheduled to be on March 2nd, but the only problem is that it’s their first round games as well. This means 3A Girls and Boys Championship games will be played earlier in the day.
How does this effect the Final Four??
Well, the final four games (held on March 1st) are usually the last games of the night. I believe 7pm and 8:30pm. The last games wouldn’t be over until 9:30-10pm. Asking a team to eat dinner, go to bed 11:30pm, then wake up early to play a possible 1:30pm game is a disadvantage. In my opinion.
Here is my suggestion...
Is it possible for North Bend to host Girls and Boys 3rd place and championship games in the evening? Three day tournaments can be exhausting mentally and physically for teams, so my vote is to have everyone rested for the title games.
Yoda and I are on the same page! Either comment or contact us with your thoughts!
So Marshfield boys will play Friday at 8:30 PM after all the games have been played.
Marshfield girls will play Saturday at 4 PM after the 3rd place girls game and before the Championship games will be played.
Boys Championship tips-off at 7pm and Girls Championship at 9PM
The latest update is that nothing official has been decided until the tournament is set BUT, it does appear that they may play Marshfield Boy's Friday ~10PM after the Girl's Semi-Final and play Marshfield Girls Saturday in between the Boy's Championship and Girl's 3rd Place game ~5PM
It doesn't sound like they are going to be moving the games at all from Marshfield to North Bend and I think the only big concern is if they put that Marshfield Boy's game earlier in the day and how that might push back the other start/end times for Friday night.
@edgoss thanks for keep us posted!
Having both girls and boys championship and final four games back to back would be ideal. The fan bases for both sides have been awesome! Everyone supports both games and the atmosphere has been electricfying!
My concern is if there is a huge gap between championship games then half of the fan base will go home. This will leave one of the games with a smaller crowd and not feeling as supported as it should be.
Monday evening there will be a Conference Call with the OSAA about the tournaments and this will be addressed. Last year Marshfield Girl's played in their home gym and the games just ran longer; seems like that may well be the case again this year.
I'm doing the Play-by-Play of the Video Broadcast with Sportscasting Unlimited and I can tell you the more we have to move back and forth, the fewer cameras we can run. We're already setting up in North Bend for the Boy's Quarterfinals and the Girl's Consolation Semi games but right now the Tourney calls for 6 games at North Bend and 16 at Marshfield so we need to know ASAP what the changes will be.
Fortunately Marshfield Boys play on March 1st and Marshfield Girls would play on March 2nd. I think the best course of action if you're trying to keep everything "As-Is" and in one gym would be to try and play those Marshfield games around 5PM on the 1st and 2nd because there are Breaks in the tournament around those times. Of course, those breaks are also to make sure everything runs on time and clear the gym out, clean, etc.
It is hard enough to recover on 3 consecutive nights, to ask the semifinal game teams to play a mentally and physically exhausting game friday night and then turn around and be faced with playing the #1 team in the state at 115 or 3pm the next day, its just asking alot of kids bodies and minds, osaa please ask north bend staff if they will host the final games sat night at their place so we dont put the players in a bad situation.
