History was made tonight with Head Coach Heather Seely- Roberts being the first female coach to lead a boys team to a State Title. Congrats coach on this amazing accomplishment and you are a role model for the next generation of women’s coaches.
Yamhill-Carlton defeats Cascade Christian 52-48 to capture their first state title since 1992. The Challengers did all they could to contain Moroni Seely- Roberts in the secons half but it was his brother Malachi Seely-Roberts who made big shots to lead YC to a comeback victory.
The Challengers did everything right but a few costly turnovers late in the fourth was the difference. My heart goes out to Cascade Christian because it was like watching a movie on repeat from last season. The Challengers came up short against OES then and now it’s YC. The ball (literally) did not bounce there way in the end. Shoutout to the seniors for leaving it all out there in Matt McPheeters (14 points), Morgan Law (10 points) , Braydan Coppedge and Levi Marincus (16 points). Next year, the Challengers will be reloaded with senior Cody Reese and 6’9 sophomore Austin Maurer.
As for the Tigers, the sophomores Seely-Roberts brothers are just scratching the surface on how good they will becom. Malachi and Moroni was no doubt the best duo in the state and they put it on display all season long. Beating teams at the 2A, 3A, 4A and even 6A level. The only goal they had left to accomplish was winning a state title and they did it! Moroni scored his usual 31 points and Malachi had 19 points. YC was able to overcome CC stingy defense to pull off the victory.
Congrats to YC and the entire Tiger Nation for winning the 3A State Title!
