It’s been a long time since a 3A boys basketball team was invited to participate in a elite tournament. This year, De La Salle was invited to participate in the inaugural LSI “The Eight”. De La Salle is coming off winning a state championship a year ago but they graduated two All State players. Including 3A State Player of The Year Emmanuel Riley.
De La Salle entered The Eight with a 3-1 record. There sole lost was to Lewis and Clark HS (WA) in the first game of the year 58-54. The Knights won three straight games in a row against Ferris (WA), OES and Blanchet Catholic. When the brackets was released, De La Salle opened up against Eastside Catholic. Many believed Eastside was the favorite to win the title. This also made people believe that De La Salle was the bottom team (#1 Eastside Catholic vs #8 De La Salle). The Knights was only down 39-28 at halftime against Eastside Catholic. In the second half, Eastside slowly pulled away and won 81-54.
Day 2, De La Salle played a solid 6A Westview HS (OR) team. De La Salle won 81-59. Sending shock waves through all of 3A! 2020 G George Sadi lead all scorers with 44 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Final Day, De La Salle faced another solid 6A program in Sandy HS. De La Salle won 73-70 in a close game. The Knights wins the Consolation Championship, George Sadi was named All Tournament team and lead the tourney in scoring. Senior Captain Theo Aclan was “Mr. Hustle Award” recipient. Eastside Catholic won the Championship.
In the end, De La Salle not only represented there school well but the entire 3A as well. Thanks! After a weekend like this, De La Salle should be rated #1 in all polls. Congrats!
