Final Score: Amity 44 Catlin Gabel 41
Certainly one of the more physical games you’ll see. Just as the Warriors started to heal from the bruises that lingered from the Willamina game last week, another punch-out ensued in Portland.
Some teams are frantically paced to almost an out of control degree, some teams are so slow and methodical to almost the point of being self destructive in late game situations, and some teams, like Amity, are physical and scrappy to almost a detrimental level. There are a lot of games the Warriors will win by pure hustle and muscle, but eventually there will come a referee crew that calls it tight, and their opponent will live at the free throw line. Both teams fed into it in this contest, it wasn’t just Amity distributing bruises to Catlin Gabel players, but the level of physicality in this one can’t be properly explained without noting the two stoppages of play for blood cleanup.
The full picture is not yet clear on Catlin Gabel and what their ceiling is. There are pieces to like here especially with the two seniors Smolin and Grant leading things, but whether that translates to a playoff berth or not remains an unknown.
Leading Scorers: Cole Grant (CG) 18, Mir Smolin (CG) 12, George Meeker (Amity) 9, Trent Carton (Amity) 9
