2019 Oregon 3A Preseason Awards and more..

Yes!!! Basketball season is upon us and I am excited to watch games! 3A Basketball will be another exciting year filled with a lot great teams and players on display. Who will make it too Coos Bay? What unknown player will make noise and lead their team to state? All those questions will be answered starting in a couple weeks. A couple headlines coming into season.. Two teams are the heavy favorites to win the title... #1 De La Salle Even though De La Salle graduated First Team All State Kadeem Nelson, Theo Aclan and Anthony Mosely, I still have them down as the favorites to win it all! De La Salle returns three key components in reigning State POY George Sadi, Coach Broadous and his entire coaching staff. All three components has participated in the last three state championship games! When you have that much experience in the locker room then everyone else will follow suit and be all in. #2 Santiam Christian Santiam Christian will be lead by 2021 Josh Baugher and he is good as advertised. Josh is the top recruit in 3A (receiving interest from colleges at all levels) and will look to lead his team back to Coos Bay. With Zach Baugher graduating, look for Koby Williamson, Ben Galceran and Joe MaQatish to play a bigger role. SC has size, length and talent at each position where it can cause problems for De La Salle. A pair of collegiate coaches join 3A.. Catlin Gabel has hired Tim Whittle. He was recently the head coach at MaCalester College in (MN). Douglass has hired Bin Van Loon. He was recently assistant coach at Umpqua College (OR).
